Farmhouse Pottery
While walking along Divisadero Street a couple years ago, I was lured into The Mill by the intoxicating smell of fragrant coffee and baking bread. However, before I could stand in line for any food or drinks, something else caught my eye. Along the left side of the shop was a handsome display of various cookware and pottery. Now, I can almost never resist the opportunity to peruse through such goods, so I naturally found myself distracted.
That was the exact moment I discovered Farmhouse Pottery. It’s a pottery studio based in Woodstock, Vermont, and their aesthetic is clean, rustic, and classic. I’m a novice potter; I’ve taken a handful of courses but still struggle to create symmetrical pieces and glazes that come out the exact shade I intended. So basically, Farmhouse Pottery’s creations are what I aspire to be able to make one day.
When my husband and I recently traveled to New Hampshire for a mini college reunion with his friends, we took advantage of the opportunity to cross the border into Vermont and check out Farmhouse Pottery in person.
I. Was. In. Heaven.
First of all, here’s a look at their beautifully curated shop:
Their workshop is right next door, and they welcome visitors! All the potters were kind enough to let me take photos and ask questions about what they were making, how long they had been working there, how long they’ve been practicing pottery…
I left Farmhouse Pottery feeling inspired by the potters and what the founders have created. I love that they live and work in the serene Vermont woods, creating beautiful pieces with their hands and sending them off into the world for others to admire and enjoy.
